The Heartland Trail was the first rail to trail projects in the country. It is a 49 mile, paved multiple use trail that goes from Park Rapids to Cass Lake. It is a beautiful biking trail in the summer and groomed for snowmobiling in the winter. This trail goes directly through the heart of Akeley where you will find a parking area with outdoor restrooms.

The Birthplace of Paul Bunyan
The Paul Bunyan Museum contains the history of Akeley. You will find interesting relics and many articles containing our history. It is staffed during the summer months by volunteers. Make sure you give those dedicated individuals a hearty thank you when you stop.
Akeley is home to the worlds larges Paul Bunyan Statue, stop at Paul's Patio and take time for a photo op in his hand, then take a moment to send us your photo. We'll add you to our upcoming slide show. Send photos to the webmaster and enjoy your visit to Akeley
Located between the City Campground (see the lodging page) and the boat landing, our beach has a playground, lots of sand and a raft. During the summer it is the location of the SAFE Program for kids.
